The Publisher

Great new application from the Creative Commons, The Publisher is a cross-platform program that uploads your video or audio content to the Internet Archive after tagging it with the appropriate license and metadata. With MP3's it is able to inject the license and metadata into the ID3 tags, and they indicate that they are working on adding this capabilty for video files, which would be absolutely awesome. In addition to the license metadata, you can add metadata in a few other categories though these seems to be live-show specific (Taper, Date, etc.). It would be great if it would allow you to create your own categories and export and import data as XML like QT Easy Annotations.

I used The Publisher to upload a MP3 that I made a while back, and will likely do the same with the "Write You a Song" video.

A desktop app like this, that allows you to choose a license, add additional metadata, inject it into the video file, create a .torrent also containing the license and metadata, and upload it to DigitalBicycle web community and tracker, will in the end be just as important as an automated client system for downloading.

In conclusion, God Bless the Creative Commons and Internet Archive. They're like two great flavors (Chocolate and Peanut butter, Mustard and Ketchup?) that taste better together.
